The Lewis Library and Technology Center

The $65 million Lewis Library and Technology Center was completed in April 2008. The venue hosted the 2008 Mayor’s Gala and State of the City Address. Located in Downtown Fontana, the Library serves as a major regional resource. At 92,500 square feet, this facility is the largest in San Bernardino County, and includes a 330‐seat auditorium, a bookstore and a coffee bar. Construction was funded by a $14.9 million State library grant and local Redevelopment funds.

Senior Community Center

The 42,320 sq. ft. Senior Community Center opened in May 2010 and is located on the north side of Ceres Avenue between Juniper and Sierra Avenues. The 45,000 square foot Community Center was specifically designed to meet the expanding needs of Fontana’s Senior Citizen’s – along with providing facilities where the community can participate in various classes and leisure activities.

Fontana Park

Over 30,000 people attended the Grand Opening of Fontana Park on October 25, 2008. This forty‐acre ‐ $60 million project ‐ includes the 43,000 square foot Jessie Turner Health & Fitness Center, the City’s first Aquatics Center, the City’s first dog park, a professionally managed 25,000 square foot skate and BMX park, and a “creative park” that encourages children to use their imaginations as they play.

Chaffey College “Campus” Expansion

The City of Fontana utilized Redevelopment and State Community College Bond Fund’s to facilitate expansion of the existing Chaffey College “Campus” facilities (Phases II and III). The Phase II and Phase III expansion brings the total “campus” area to over 60,000 sq. ft. of classroom and administrative facilities. The Fontana “Campus” is one of the most utilized facilities in the entire Chaffey College system.

Downtown Senior Housing Projects

The Fontana Redevelopment Agency constructed four (4) phases of Senior Affordable Housing in Downtown Fontana. Coordinated through the Fontana Housing Authority, the development included land acquisition, relocation, demolition, construction and on‐going professional management. Funding for these projects included low‐mod housing set‐aside funds, Federal HOME program funds, Federal and State Tax Credits, bond monies and AHP Funds. In total, these facilities provide high‐quality affordable housing to over 400 senior families who reside in Downtown Fontana.

Paseo Verde Apartment

The Fontana Redevelopment Agency constructed three (3) phases of Affordable “Family‐Oriented” Housing on Valley Blvd. in Fontana. Coordinated through the Fontana Housing Authority, the project included land acquisition, relocation, demolition, construction and on‐going professional management. Funding for the Paseo Verde Apartments included low‐mod housing set‐aside funds, Federal HOME program funds, Federal and State Tax Credits, bond monies and AHP Funds. In total, the Paseo Verde Apartments provide high‐quality housing (at affordable rents) to over 200 Fontana families. These apartments are highly ammenitized – with large community rooms and space and a Learning Center for after‐school programs and activities.
